Our Board of Directors
Justin Jones President and Founder
Justin Jones is the President and Founder of American Hero Hunt. He is 35 years old and married with 2 boys ages 9 and 7. He and his family run a small hobby farm and all have a passion for the outdoors. This is the story of his involvement with American Hero Hunt.
"Being a Veteran, I have always had a calling to give back to people, especially other veterans. I started American Hero Hunt in 2016 as just a small way to give back to a couple deserving veterans each year. I put out an application online for two hunts, one waterfowl and one whitetail. The first two hunters came to camp in fall of 2017. Doing everything as DIY, we hunted public land for waterfowl on Lake Erie and a private property for whitetail in Logan County Ohio. It was a hard task to make sure the heroes could harvest game but I soon found out it wasn’t all about the harvest. It was way more than that."
Since then, American Hero Hunt has continued to grow immensely. They started out with 3 founding board members and now have 15 active board members with 5 officers of the board. American Hero Hunt would not be where it is today without all the help from past and present board members, donors and local sponsors.
Over the past years, AHH has been able to take 40-50 veterans and first responders on hunting and fishing trips, each year. When they take a Hero on a trip, they try to outfit them from head to toe with what is needed for their adventure and then send them home with that gear. This way they can continue to pursue the hobby in the outdoors.
"Being able to take a Hero on a hunt or fishing trip is one thing but being able to give back and build a relationship with them is priceless. Hanging out together, building camaraderie, swapping stories and just being able to relax, is what it is all about. It gives me great pride and accomplishment to be a part of a deserving hero’s weekend adventure and see them genuinely be able to relax and enjoy themselves, outside the stresses of everyday life."
"When on the trips with Heroes, it amazes me to see their humbleness and gratitude for what American Hero Hunt is doing. The trip is all about them and they are so selfless that they try to downplay their service and our need to give back to them. It’s just a true testament as to why we want to do what we do for our Heroes."
American Hero Hunt's goal is to be able to serve as many veterans and first responders a year as possible. Taking them on a multitude of hunting, fishing and camping trips all over the country. There is never enough gratitude given to those who sign the dotted line in the armed forces and those that risk their lives here at home, being public servants.
"Again, thank you to all those who support our cause and those that sponsor us in our mission to give back to our Nation’s Heroes."

Randy Bussart Vice President
Eric Melrose 2nd Vice President
Eric discovered American Hero Hunt after a random Facebook marketplace purchase of an item from an existing member. After that one chance meeting where he learned about the organization, there was no looking back! He had found the path that would allow him to support his fellow veterans and give back to America's Heroes.
Eric was medically retired from the USMC after 11 years, during which time he crisscrossed the globe in support of our country. He's an avid hunter who enjoys introducing the sport to new people and being there to support and celebrate seasoned hunters. Originally from the Newark area, he returned to Coshocton County to live after short stints in Michigan and Minnesota. As a landowner, he is excited to share his property with Heroes.
When he's not setting up American Hero Hunt campsites or helping process animals harvested by Heroes, he enjoys spending his time with family, including his wife, 3 adult children and 2 grandsons. His time is well-spent working with the families' various animals and finding ways to encourage the next generation of heroes and hunters.

Kevin has always had a love for the outdoors and his country. He served in the Marine Corps Infantry
from 2008 to 2012 with a deployment on the 26 MEU and a tour in Afghanistan in 2011. Kevin now lives
in Michigan and loves to hunt whitetails and turkey as well as go out west for mule deer and elk. Kevin
was selected for our January 2023 Muzzleloader hunt in Ohio and fell in love with the organization. He
was elected to our board of directors in July of 2023. “I am excited to be a part of such a great
organization that gives so much to our military and first responders. I can’t wait to watch the
organization grow and expand throughout the country and be able to help and support all of the men
and women that have sacrificed so much for this great nation.”
